Higher, middle, and lower.Many of the higher-class people only associate with the higher class. Then middle with the middle. If you are now well dressed or look poor and you ask for help from a rich person don’t expect to get any. Many rich people think that if they associate with the lower class it will make them look bad if a rich person went to a poor person for help they would most likely receive it. The reason for that is they don’t care who they help or what they did. In The Grapes of Wrath you see a lot of discrimination against the okies. Especially when they were coming in numbers. Nobody liked them just because of the way that they looked. The upper class wants nothing to do with the okies. Then again some people were glad to help. For example when the Joad family needed a loaf of bread and the restaurant manager sold then one for ten cents and the bread was actually fifteen cents. That was a way the rich helped the poor.
